my darling beloved gave me some lore ideas for the enurian critters so!

when traveling into another biome/region of enurian, ferraen will often paint their faces for the first few months of staying there. though the modern interpretation of this ritual is to obscure one's face from predators and to appear more threatening, as well as a sort of good luck charm, it's likely a holdover from ancient times and a practice developed from whatever liminal god may have existed in the distant past.

here, signalfire displays motifs from brushfire, the first firemaker, on one side of their face, and iconography from helix of a compass on the other.

I got the idea to look at pictures of mantis shrimps for inspiration, which you may have heard of from the shrimp colors meme. Recent science has shown they just have more receptors for processing the same colors we do, rather than an ability to see secret colors, which leads me to the prompt for this kal...

woah, sweathie's alive?

yeah! hi everyone :) it's been a few months since i abruptly stopped posting but I figured I owe you all (and want to give) a little life update!

I stopped posting back in November/December 2023 because I suffered a Pretty Bad mental break and ended up going to the hospital. My friends and I decided that it would be best for me to make a clean break from CS/Discord for a period to avoid additional stress on my life and my relationships. I was dealing with a lot in my real life in November and didn't have the mental capacity to keep up with Internet Life. I want to extend a gracious thank you to everyone on the Chicoon Staff, especially the moderation team and the archive team, for helping out and taking over for me as well as being understanding when I was not in the best mental space <3 <3

I'm doing a hell of a lot better now and some pretty big life things happened!
- I graduated summa cum laude with a 4.0 GPA from my University. I got my Bachelor's of Fine Arts in Illustration!
- I will be staying for a 5th year to complete my Master of Art in Teaching- this has been my plan since starting at University and I'm so glad I will be able to achieve it.
- I won an award for my Senior Year work from my University <3
- My University's Graduate program is sending me to New York state over the summer to participate in a symposium!
- I was part of the voting committee to elect a new bishop in my synod and was also our previous bishop's assissting minister during the first day of voting processes. I care deeply about our previous bishop and am excited for what our new bishop will bring to the synod as an openly gay man (and as a friend of my father LOL)!
- I am ~officially~ part of a publication through my work. Part of my stress at the end of last year was getting our piece out to be published, but now it is!
- I celebrated 7 years with my wonderful boyfriend <3

Obviously this is just the peaks of the last 6 months of my life, a lot of Normal stuff happened and obviously some Bad stuff happened, but I'm glad to be able to share that all with you :)

I'm still pretty active on Discord and TH if anyone wants to reconnect! I don't know if I'll be getting into the swing of things on CS anytime soon, but I've been on this website for 12 years (as of 9 days ago🎉), I'm not leaving anytime soon!
